Turbulence that occurs in a place where current movement is not visible to the eye, as opposed to cumulus and cumulonimbus, where clouds make the current movement visible, is called clear air turbulence.

Clear air turbulence occurs in cases such as K-H Instability, where a large current velocity shear occurs, and also where mountain waves occur.
